General Description of Trip
This trip takes you through a range of country around the Bathurst area, from irrigated flood plains to the rolling hills and natural bush. This is a trip to:
- Soak up the scenery;
- Enjoy the history and the historic buildings;
- Relax at a picnic spot;
- Dangle a fishing line;
- Snatch a bargain on the weekend; and
- Smile at the Trunkey Creek Sportsground's public bar.

- There is no petrol on this tour until Perthville (approx 150 kms).
- No Dogs / No Camping / No Fires / No Trail Biking at Chifley Dam.
- This tour involves driving on minor roads - please drive carefully. The tour also involves approximately 20 kms of dirt road - please be extra careful on these roads.

Directions For Our Tour
0 kms - From Bathurst Heights Bed and Breakfast turn left at the end of John Norton Place. Follow along Brilliant Street to the Give Way sign and turn left. Follow along Havannah Street.
2.6 kms - At the end of Havannah Street there is a T intersection and set of lights, turn right onto the Great Western Highway. Follow along the Great Western Highway through Kelso.
5 kms - Turn right to Oberon and Jenolan Caves along Tourist Drive 1. Follow the road towards O'Connell. In the early sections of the road, there are a couple of local fruit stalls.
Highlights along this section of road are the horse studs and some beautiful old and new homesteads clearly visible from the road.
21.4 kms - Cross Fish River and stop at the park for cuppa or picnic. The park offers toilets, wood BBQ, a playground and sheltered tables.

22 kms - Drive along the beautiful avenue into O'Connell.
Refer to "A Guide To Bathurst Regional Villages" for information about O'Connell but don't miss Viewing some of the historic buildings and enjoying the stunning avenue of Desert Ash trees.
After visiting O'Connell, turn around and head back towards to Fish River and turn left along the Beaconsfield Road.
25.5 kms - Turn right to Lagoon.
Highlights along this section of road are the cropping and pasture lands with panoramic views. Nearing Lagoon, you'll get glimpses of the Chifley Dam. Keep an eye out for eagles soaring.
36.7 kms - Cross the Campbell River - this may be a good place to throw in a line.
37.2 kms - Turn left at the T intersection and follow along the river flats.
39.8 kms - Turn left onto the road leading into the Chifley Dam.
42.4 kms - At Chifley Dam offers swimming, boating, children's playground, gas BBQs and toilet facilities.

Return from Chifley Dam.
44.9 kms - At the T intersection, turn left.
Highlights along this section of road are the hilly grazing country, natural timbered hills and great views. Look out for trees growing out of the rocky outcrops.
56.6 kms - Warning! Dirt Road for approx 9 kms.
64.7 kms - Lovely causeway - potential picnic or cuppa stop.
65.6 kms - Bitumen and turn right at T intersection to Rockley.
66.8 kms - Arrive at Rockley.

Don't miss taking a few minutes to enjoy the fabulous park in the middle of town and walk around some stunning historic buildings
When leaving Rockley, turn left at the sign to Trunkey, past the old council building on the right and church on the left.
67.2 kms - Turn right to Trunkey.
67.7 kms - Fine Art Gallery on right.
74.5 kms - Triangle Flat with its grazing land and state forest to the left.
78.9 kms - Follow road around to right to Trunkey.
79.8 kms - Look out to the left to see if you can spot any deer at the Rockley Deer Farm.
80.9 kms - Warning! Dirt Road approx 10 kms.
Highlights of this section of road are the cropping lands giving way to the rolling hills.
87 kms - Causeway - looks like a pretty spot for a picnic or cuppa.
88.8 kms - Panoramic views to the left as you climb the hill.

89.5 kms - Look hard and you can see the Wind Turbines to your right.
90.3 kms - Bitumen and turn left to Trunkey.
Highlights of this section of road are the native bush.
96.1 kms - At the T intersection, turn left into Trunkey Creek
Refer to "A Guide To Bathurst Regional Villages" for information about Trunkey Creek. Your tour can be extended to incorporate Abercrombie Caves and the spectacular Grove Creek Falls
The public bar at the Trunkey Creek Showground/Sportsground.
Turn around and head back the way you came into Trunkey Creek.
Go straight ahead past the right turn to Bathurst - don't turn right!
Highlights of this section of road are the remnant native forest, rolling hills and grazing lands.
111.5 kms - Hobby's Yard - take a moment to view the Church and grave yard.
Continue along through rolling hills used for cropping and grazing.
125.1 kms - Newbridge offers a craft shop and cafe. Take the time to have a look at the old railway station.
The panoramic views continue as remnant bush gives way to rolling hills and some cropping.
140.2 kms - at the T intersection turn left to Bathurst.
144 kms - Turn left again to Bathurst into Georges Plains.
147.8 kms - Perthville
Its well worth check out the antiques at the service station.
153.5 kms - Turn left at the Mount Panorama sign, past the old railway workshops and the State Emergency Service.
155.9 kms - Turn left into Havannah Street.
156 kms - Turn right into Panorama Avenue.
157.5 kms - At the first round-about (at Brilliant Street) turn right.
157.7 kms - First road on right is John Norton Place.
160 kms - You're home again at Bathurst Heights Bed and Breakfast.
